We live in a society that rarely emphasizes the idea of persevering. Instead we are fed the "importance" of getting what we want or think we deserve and getting it when we want it. The idea of persevering through difficult times becomes unbearable. But it is in those difficult times, provided that we cling to the Lord, that we see the most growth (James 1:2-4).
Likewise in prayer, too many have taught that faith in God means instant results to prayer. But the Bible teaches us to persevere in prayer (Psalm 123:2; Luke 18:1ff; Romans 12:12). We need to pray and keep praying. In John 11, we read about the story of Lazarus who has fallen ill. His sisters implore Yeshua to come and heal him, but He delays in going. In fact, He does not leave to visit the sisters until Lazarus has died, and He does not arrive until Lazarus has been dead for four days. Why did Yeshua wait? In waiting even greater glory was brought to the Lord. Yeshua didn't just heal a sick man, nor did He raise someone who was dead just a day or two and could have been only mistakenly thought dead, but He raised a man to life who was most assuredly dead. In doing so, God was given greater glory, and Mary, Martha, and all who witnessed it or heard of it could come to a fuller understanding that Yeshua was indeed the Resurrection and the Life! (John 11:25)
If you persevere in prayer, if you maintain your faith and your faithfulness to the Lord, if you seek His face with all your heart, I have no doubt that you will see the glory of God revealed in your life. And in persevering you will learn one very important lesson...the most important thing in our lives is not the things we are praying for, but the One we are praying to. And He is with you in each and every prayer, in each in every trial, and in each and every joy.
